Andy Green OBE, the driver of the car, gave a lecture about the science behind the record breaking attempt to a packed audience.

David Morris, Head of Physics at St Peter’s School kicked started this unique opportunity when he was looking for a popular subject for a public lecture to be held at the school as part of York Science and Technology Week.

‘This is the third event we have hosted as part of the York and Science Technology week,’ said David Morris who is Head of Physics at St Peter’s. ‘I am passionate about bringing science to adults and children in an accessible way and events such as this hopefully achieve that goal. The car is an amazing sight and using some ground breaking new technology, so it is going to be an exciting evening’.

Dominic Rogerson, Officer Commanding 400 Troop Royal Logistic Corps based in Catterick, with a team of soldiers assistied in the off-loading of the one tonne car with its later move to the National Railway Museum.

The car was moved to the National Railway Museum for its Record Breakers exhibition. That sounds easy but it was discovered that it was impossible to get the car there due to the height restrictions of both the Leman Road bridge and the tunnel by the Post Office. So the Army came to help by taking the car off the low loader lorry and then pushed through the tunnel by a team of 10 soldiers.
