Burgess Hill Boarders make jewelleryThe Year 8, 9 and 10 boarders at Burgess Hill School for Girls went to Giraffe Gems in Burgess Hill on Saturday 15th January to make their own African-style beads which they turned into bracelets.

The trip lasted more than 3 hours, but it was such an interesting and exciting workshop. No one felt tired when they were working, they were all concentrating!

How did these wonderful bracelets come to be? First of all, the girls mixed colourful and soft mud materials together. The colours included red, yellow, green, blue, pink and black. But the background colour was white. Next they chose their own favourites and rubbed them to little globes. Finally the staff in the workshop helped them put the beads into the particular oven to turn them into solids, so the artists all got nice brightly coloured bracelets!

From the smiles on their faces you could see how happy the girls were! The experience was new and popular and a lot of the girls had fancied doing something creative, so no doubt, the trip was really successful.
