Bournemouth Collegiate Prep School U’11 hockey team travelled to Millfield School in Somerset to represent Dorset Bournemouth Collegiateas County School Champions in their age group at the South West Regional hockey finals.

The young BCS team enjoyed great success on their first outing to this event. The sun shone and some excellent hockey was played.

In the first qualifying section of the tournament the boys narrowly lost their first 2 games 0 -1 but then bounced back with draws to Buckwood School from East Sussex and Dean Close from Cheltenham. Dean Close later went on to win the whole tournament.

BCS Team Manager, David Smith said, “The highlight of the day for all of the team was the next game against Millfield School. The result was a draw but showed just how strong and committed the team is, particularly as Millfield School has such a strong reputation on the national hockey scene.”

The BCS boys promised their Manager that they would not go home without a win. True to their word they had an exciting last match against St Petrocs from Devon, in which they fought to the end and won 1 -0.

Leah Wilkinson, Welsh Hockey international and coach at BCS said, “The boys played brilliantly. They gelled together Bournemouth Collegiatewell as a team, supported each other and had some fantastic results. “

David Smith finished by saying, “I am extremely proud of the BCS Team’s achievement; the Team held their own against some very good opposition and only just narrowly missed out on a spot in the semi- finals. They have most definitely put Bournemouth Collegiate Prep School and Dorset on the hockey map.”
