Bournemouth Collegiate School Rowing Academy pupils celebrated a very successful day of racing at the 2013 Ball Bournemouth CollegiateCup at Eton Dorney last weekend and relished the experience of competing on the 2012 Olympic course.

Year 8 Ben Cavill enjoyed a fantastic day out and smashed his heat in his J13 single, finishing 100metres ahead of the other 5 boats. He then went on to gain gold in the final with a very convincing win.

The WJ16 girls 4 (Katherine Young, Lauren Wareham, Charlotte Pardy, Georgie Neville) won Bronze in their Coxless quad, even after another boat came into their lane which forced them to do some interesting steering!

The J15 girls coxed quad (Nina Rudd, Tash Kingsley, Ellie Mackin, Jesse Marais and Amelia Wood Power made it to the final after a very fast heat and came away with 5th place. This was a particularly satisfying result considering that these girls have only trained together 3 times to date.

BCS Rowing Academy Coach, Robyn Chambers said, “It was a great opportunity for all the team to say that they have raced on the 2012 Olympic course, where so many legends were born – a huge inspiration.

I was very impressed with Ben’s performance and he has shown just how committed he is to his rowing. He is very focused. I am very proud of all of the BCS rowers who raced; many who have only been rowing for a matter of months.”

Ben added. “I feel really proud of my achievement. I pushed myself hard and all the training is paying off.”
