Bournemouth Collegiate School pupils enjoyed a real life design challenge when they were tasked with designing Bournemouth Collegiate Buisnessbusiness cards for two local companies.

Mark Macdonald from Bournemouth based company, ‘Landmark’, is a tree surgeon and landscaper and visited the school with James Munday from Southbourne company, Pizza Gourmet Ltd, a pizza take away & delivery service.

The BCS pupils had previously been given a brief on the two companies and tasked with designing innovative business cards that the two companies could eventually print up and use within their businesses.

The pupils carried out primary and secondary research and even carried out market research with shoppers on the High Street in Southbourne.

Pupils presented their designs to ‘Landmark’ and ‘Pizza Gourmet’ and the business owners set about the difficult task of picking a winning card design for each business.

Mark from Landmark picked year 8 Ben Dakin as his winner and said, “I love Ben’s design, it’s visually interesting. He’s obviously thought through the design process and has used my company colours. It’s a very clever design.”

Ben said, “I’m really happy that my design was picked. I put in lots of effort and really enjoyed the design exercise.”

James from Pizza Gourmet said, “I’ve been really impressed with many of the entries but my favourite was from Year 9 Zak Aitchison who has created a really unique card in the shape of a pizza slice, with much detail on it. I shall actually be using it in my business as a combined loyalty card and business card.”

Zak said, “I was surprised to win but really pleased. I’m looking forward to claiming my prize of Pizza for myself and a friend!”
