Bournemouth Collegiate School Rowers Impress on the River

Many Bournemouth Collegiate School Rowing Academy pupils enjoyed their first taste of competition on the river at Bournemouth Collegiatethe annual Bryanston Regatta and they certainly impressed and grabbed their chances for success!

Rowing Academy Coach, Robyn Chambers said, “The BCS Team was made up of rowers, who had either never raced before or had never won a race in a particular boat category.

It was a long day, but a sunny and very well supported one! The banks were lined with supporters cheering our youngest rowers on!”

Bournemouth Collegiate School was competing against some well established schools and clubs such as Bryanston School, Canford School, Millfield School and Blandford.but were not deterred and certainly stamped their mark on the competition.

There were many medals gained with 6 Gold Cups won and 4 Runner Up Medals. There was a strong debut race appearance in the Junior14 Coxed Quad from BCS Joe Hewison, Ethan Dowler, paired with two Christchurch rowers, Lennon Harding-Wade and Charlie Ransom with experienced BCS Georgie Neville as cox.

Year 9 Sophie Locke had a brilliant debut race in the Junior 14 Singles Category and won the final in a convincing win.

Year 10 Harry Fountain impressed with this runners up medal in the Junior 15 Double, racing for the first time with CRC rower, Hugo Roberts.

Sophie said, “I loved my first outing on the river today. I was really nervous beforehand and didn’t know quite what to expect and then I surprised myself and won!”

Robyn added, “This was a fantastic confidence booster and they have all come away very excited to race again! Mark Sims, Assistant Coach, and I could never have predicted that we would come away with such fantastic results. It’s been really satisfying to see so many of the rowers performing at such a high standard.”
