On Tuesday 2nd October 2012 Leighton Park pupils were visited by special guest, Alan Martin who led an inclusive contemporary dance workshop based around the theme of friendship. Pupils from Holme Grange School also took part in this fun and unique experience.

Alan, who uses a communication aid and a wheelchair, frequently delivers his dance workshops to schools. Alan believes passionately that everyone can dance and that it can be an incredible tool for altering perceptions of disability. Alan worked with both Year 7 pupils and Sixth Formers from Leighton Park and Holme Grange pupils from Years 5-8 were inspired to create their own choreography.

Nicola Williams, Head of Lower School said, “The whole day was fantastic; the pupils were inspired by the challenge of exploring friendship and then developing their ideas through contemporary dance. This was all led by a truly exceptional man who has never allowed his disability to prevent him from achieving his ambitions. Dance allows all people the opportunity to express a sense of freedom no matter how limited or wide their range of movement. Never again will those of us that have been fortunate to work with Alan, use the expression ‘that’s impossible, I can’t do that’.”
