Bromsgrove School Charity Bike Ride

Bromsgrove Preparatory School teacher Richard Widdop is hoping to take on the very adventurous challenge of cycling the 950 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just 12 days over the school summer holidays. To support him in his training Mr Widdop arranged a challenge for Bromsgrove Prep School pupils and staff to join him in undertaking a charity bike ride at School on static training bikes. The aim was to cycle 265 miles – the distance between Bromsgrove and Land’s End but with great enthusiasm the participants managed to cycle over 400 miles and they raised £900 for the Nepal Disaster Fund following the major earthquake suffered in the area.  Pupils were delighted that Mr Gumbo Tamang visited Bromsgrove to collect the cheque.

Redditch resident, Mr Tamang, was born and brought up in the village of Thulo Bharku in the Langtang National Park in Rasuwa district to the north west of Kathmandu, near the Tibetan border. The village is just one of many destroyed by the earthquake which officials say killed more than 5,500 people, and injured at least 11,000. He has made it his aim to raise £3,500 to help rebuild the village.
