Bromsgrove School’s ADT GP race team have been crowned the World Kitcar Champions.

The team raced their kitcar, The Chicken, at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northampton at the World Finals, hoping to beat the track record for the fastest terminal speed, fastest lap and furthest distance.

Consisting of pupils from Years 9-12, they arrived early and went straight to scrutineering, where the father of the former CEO for Greenpower and committed member of twenty years’ service within the foundation, commented on the car’s professional appearance.

The team achieved their aims by setting a fastest terminal speed for the track of 29.0MPH which was nearly 2mph more than the current record. In heavy steel-framed cars, that is a huge difference. They also added the fastest lap to the records by beating the current lap record of 3m15s with a time of 3m3s, also setting the distance record for the track of 36.8 miles.

Steve Broadbent, design and technology teacher, said: “This was a great weekend of racing, and a real heart stopper at times, but we emerged as World Kitcar Champions and showed the rest of the series that they had better be checking those wing mirrors because a Chicken will soon be bearing down on the top ten F24 cars in the near future.”

“A special thanks to: NSOptimum, Gorilla Glue UK, 4QD and BAL Aluminium for your continued efforts and support of our little race team. We couldn’t do it without you”.
