Pupils from Bromsgrove Preparatory School were treated to a visit from a very special guest, in the form of 
historical figure Sir Ernest Shackleton.
An actor playing the part of Sir Ernest came to talk to Year 3 pupils about the sad tale of his failed expedition on his ship Endurance in 1915 and to share photographs of his adventures, as part of the pupils’ Ice Worlds topic.
Year 3 also visited the School’s Old Chapel on Wednesday to discover, research and sketch the famous sledge from Sir Robert Falcon Scott’s fateful Terra Nova Antarctic Expedition which began in 1910 and ended in tragedy in 1912.
Bromsgrove School is fortunate to hold the sledge in the School’s museum collection. Captain Scott used Siberian Husky sled dogs in his attempt at conquering the South Pole.
The School was one of many schools who sponsored a husky – Bromsgrove’s was named “Peary” – and was (1).jpg)
lucky enough to obtain one of the few surviving artefacts from the famous expedition.
