A choir from Bromsgrove Preparatory School has won the Barnardo’s National Choral Competition.

For the second year running, two choirs from the Prep School were selected for the grand final of the competition on Monday, held at the prestigious Royal Festival Hall in London. The Royal Festival Hall was awash with choirs, as the senior category also attracted some excellent singing groups.

Each choir entering the competition received a written report on their entry by head judge Douglas Coombes MBE. As the winning choir, Bromsgrove Prep will have a specially commissioned piece written for them by the prolific composer and conductor, which they will perform at The Royal Albert Hall later in the year.

In the evening of the competition, the concert showcased all of the choirs taking part, in an astonishing display of choral singing, where all the massed choirs sang together.

Michelle Corrie, Bromsgrove Prep’s Head of Music and Conductor, said: “I am absolutely thrilled for the children of the Prep School that they had this amazing opportunity to be involved in something so special, and in doing so, helped to raise money for the Barnardo’s children’s charity. Winning the junior choir category was the icing on the cake.”

The choirs have an exciting year ahead, with forthcoming appearances at Coventry Cathedral Evensong, competing at the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts and a Choir tour to Salzburg in the Autumn.
