Bromsgrove School Chesterton Cup Winners
The winning 1st XI at New Road

Bromsgrove School 1st  XI were crowned Chesterton Cup champions for the third consecutive year at New Road County Ground on Sunday 21st May.

The finals took a T20 finals day format, our team faced Worcester’s  Royal Grammar School who they defeated by 70 runs in the first semi-final with an explosive 38 from Chase Edwards setting the tone.  The batting was  followed up by a faultless fielding and bowling display; Alex Wilkinson taking 3 wickets for 9 runs off his 4 overs and James Kinder 2 wickets for 12 runs off his 4 overs.

The team then faced  Monmouth School in the final they had beaten the favourites; Malvern earlier in the day and were on good form. A fine partnership between Jack Bewick and James Taylor meant we rescued a bad start to post a competitive if below par 125 from our 20 overs. What happened next was an outstanding bowling display to restrict a strong Monmouth batting line up to 118 and win by 7 runs in a nail-biting game.

Director of Cricket, Dave Fallows says “We are all delighted with this fantastic performance by the first team but special mentions go to bowlers James Kinder and Year 10 pupil Neylan Chauhan,  who bowled a fantastic spell at the end of the innings. Jack Harding also deserves a mention for outstanding fielding – he saved at least the 7 runs winning margin with sliding stops on the boundary edge.”
