Bromsgrove School is always looking for ways to increase its value added for pupils, and recently thought has been towards retention of the very brightest students in our schools. As part of the Monmouth Group of school we invited twenty colleagues Bromsgrove School in May for a day of sharing best practice in the support of our most able students. As well as the session on stretching scholars, there was particular focus on applications to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and other very competitive courses, such as Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science, and competitive universities in USA/Canada, Hong Kong, and Europe. An informative summary of international applications was provided by Helen Popescu, based on a report written by Bromsgrove’s Head of International university applications, Mrs Fran Bateman. Colleagues commented that the “experience was eye-opening,” and that “the discussions were illuminating and reassuring.”

Dr Dawn Rimmer, Bromsgrove School’s Master of Scholars who organised this inaugural meeting, said: “we gained many valuable insights about our collective experience in supporting our brightest and best, and we look forward to meeting again next year at Kingswood School in Bath.”
