Bromsgrove School Jubilee CelebrationsPupils and staff at Bromsgrove School got into the party spirit over the past week to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

At the Pre-Preparatory School, there was a street party with bunting, the tables were laid with Union Flag cloths and plates, crowns adorned many heads and the entire School stood to sing the National Anthem before the party began. The children in Reception and Year 1 also enjoyed a surprise ‘Tea with the Queen,’ on Wednesday, as part of their celebrations. They had been busily preparing for the tea party all week, including writing invitations to a partner in the other year group and baking delicious cakes, which were iced red, white and blue and topped with a Jubilee design. The glorious afternoon was rounded off with the children entertaining ‘Her Majesty’ with some written compositions, entitled ‘If I were Queen for the day.’ Our thanks go to the ‘royal visitor’, Mrs Heather Harris.

In addition to the festivities at the Pre-Prep, every child from ages two to eighteen was presented with a commemorative Jubilee coin, exclusive to Bromsgrove School, to mark this historic event. Headmaster Chris Edwards said: “The Jubilee gives us all cause to ponder the passing of time and the importance of tradition. We will always respect and learn from the past (the Jubilee coins are evidence of that), but at Bromsgrove it will never dictate to us. You can be a slave to history or you can make it. We choose the latter.”
