After receiving its best ever International Baccalaureate results last month, Bromsgrove School has just registered its highest ever A level results both in terms of A* and A to B grade averages.

199 pupils sat 650 A levels (and 45 BTEC qualifications). 27.3% of all results were at A*, 61.6% were at A* and A, while 88.6% were at A*to B. The average UCAS point score per A level candidate was 450, equivalent to A*A*A at A level with an additional AS level. (The School’s International Baccalaureate UCAS average was even higher at 510).

32 pupils achieved four or more A and A* grades at A level while many subjects (ranging from Maths to Latin) saw over two thirds of their entry score A* and A grades. The four local Heads of School scored seventeen A* and A grades between them at A and extra AS levels. Fred Alford and Maxime Cox led the local Oxbridge charge with 10 A* between them.

Headmaster Chris Edwards said: “Once again I am delighted and humbled by the pupils’ performance. These are massive cohorts taking the traditional difficult subjects, and after July’s International Baccalaureate success, I wondered if we’d seen all the good news. I was wrong: these results are close to miraculous given that, on paper at least, this was supposed to be a weaker cohort than last year. My unreserved congratulations to staff, parents and, again, the pupils themselves. This is a year we will never forget.
