Josh Watkins, a sixth-form student at Bromsgrove School, made a strong start to the England Under 18 Rugby season by helping secure an 18-16 win against a strong French side on Sunday. Seventeen-year old Josh, who also plays on the wing for Worcester Warriors, provided the French defence with some major problems and his strong pace proved an asset to the team. Despite a tough battle, England emerged the stronger side with a close victory over the opposition.

Josh follows in the footsteps of a number of Bromsgrove School pupils who have gone on to excel as England Rugby players – including three former Bromsgrovians who have recently been selected for Stuart Lancaster’s England Rugby squad.

Ben Foden will play in the Six Nations, while George Robson and Matt Mullan have both been chosen to form part of the English Saxons against Ireland and Scotland.
