Mromsgrove Prep School rugby championsA group of boys at Bromsgrove Preparatory School in Worcestershire have proved themselves exceptional in a run of huge successes across several sports.

The boys, all aged 13 and under, formed the Rugby Sevens squad which this week fought tough opposition at the prestigious Rosslyn Park National Schools’ Championships to emerge as Champions with a 27 – 0 win against Bedford School. The Bromsgrove squad had been favourites to win following their performances in the tournaments leading up to Rosslyn Park, winning the cups at Packwood and Millfield tournaments as well as at home at the Bromsgrove Sevens. Coach Chris Harris has stated that the boys are a credit to the School and that the success at Rosslyn Park is “the highlight of my 31 years at the School.”

The same group of boys also had success earlier in the year with an astounding unbeaten Rugby Union season. The 1st XV team broke records with a run of 15 matches with 15 wins, amassing an astonishing 752 points and conceding only 30. The team were universally praised for their impressive skill and conduct in every match.

If success in Rugby across the board was not enough to prove their quality, boys from the same group stole the show at the IAPS National Hockey Finals at Millfield School, with the 1st VII battling their way to the top to claim the Championship. It is only the third time in twelve years that the Bromsgrove team have won the title, with the two other occasions in 2004 and 2005. Only the host team, Millfield, have won the Championship more times, making Bromsgrove the second best school in the competition’s history. In addition the same age group were National Finalists in the ESAA All England Cross Country Cup Final at Alnwick, Northumberland, as only one of two Prep Schools to have qualified. To top it all off the boys in this age group are known for their success in Cricket, Swimming and Athletics – for which the summer season holds high hopes.
