Tennis players from Bromsgrove School recently enjoyed a successful weekend at the Hereford and Worcestershire LTA U14 and U16 Boys’ and Girls’ County Doubles Tournament.

The competition, held at Malvern College and Malvern St James, saw Bobby Mekushina and Claudia Bullock win the Girls’ U16 Doubles County title. Two pairings from the school made it to the final of the Girls’ U14 Doubles, with Isabelle O’Conner and Lucy McLoughlin beating Anabel Crowder and Isabelle Jones to win the title. The Smyth Cup U18 Girls’ Singles final also saw an all-Bromsgrove final, with Georgie Jeynes-Cupper beating the aforementioned Claudia.

Stuart Shannon and Cameron Owen won the Boys’ U14 Doubles competition 4-0 to be crowned champions of their age group, with the former also winning the Scott Cup U18 Boys’ Singles tournament that saw three of the four semi-finalists come from Bromsgrove.

Richard Lawton, director of tennis, said: “Over the last four years, the tennis programme at Bromsgrove School has grown from strength to strength, resulting in success that has not been seen for 20 years. The School has won five out of a possible six trophies at the Hereford and Worcestershire County Championships, which is truly remarkable. We are all delighted with the fantastic performances by the pupils, especially Stuart, who not only won the U14 Doubles title but also the U18 Singles title, playing two age groups up! Congratulations to all!”
