A teenager from Bruton School for Girls is flying high after achieving success as both a gymnast and a pilot.

Jess Brain has been selected to represent Great Britain in the trampoline and tumbling events at the European Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, later this month, having qualified in first place in the Junior competition. She has also been chosen to compete in the Scalabis Cup in Portugal this summer.

The success comes soon after the 16 year old also became one of the youngest people in the country to fly an aircraft solo last week. She says she harbours hopes of a career as an airline pilot.

Nicky Botterill, headmistress at Bruton School for Girls, said: “Jess’s absolute determination, dedication and ambition is truly impressive in someone so young.  We are delighted to support Jess in her GCSE study while she is also competing at such a high level.  Working with Jess and her family to allow her to accomplish so much has been a privilege and we look forward to developing this support as she enters our Sixth Form, where she hopes to gain her private pilot’s licence and onto her dream job as a pilot.”
