It is another impressive year for GCSE results at Bruton School for Girls. 25 per cent of the school’s entries were awarded A* grades and 57 per cent A* or A.

Outstanding individual results were gained by: Georgina Fox of Galhampton near Castle Cary with ten A* passes and one A, Eleanor Kirwan also of Galhampton with nine A*s and two As, Sarah Parsons of South Cheriton with eight A*s and three As, Christy Wong of Hong Kong with eight A*s, one A and three Bs, Olivia Edwards of Frome with five A*s and four As, Emma Cotton of West Bradley near Glastonbury with four A*s, five As and a B and Ellen Thorne of Sturminster Newton with two A*s and nine As.

Headmaster John Burrough, who retires at the end of August, said “I am delighted by this final set of GCSE results. Taken together with last week’s record A level results, and given that Bruton School for Girls is not academically selective, they speak volumes for the fantastic teaching that enables the girls to succeed. Examination results are not the be-all and end-all of a good education, but they are very important passports to the future. The school has provided the opportunities and the students have seized them enthusiastically.”

New Headmistress Nicola Botterill commented “these are magnificent results and I congratulate all the girls and my new colleagues on their success. Bruton School for Girls’ reputation for academic achievement is clearly well founded.”
