Staff and pupils at Somerset’s only girls’ school, Bruton School for Girls, are delighted to have achieved second Bruton School for Girls leagueplace in the county’s secondary school league tables published by the Department of Education.

The School’s outstanding position in the league tables as based on the average number of points scored by pupils at AS and A Level.

The school’s results across every measure at A Level and GCSE placed them above the other two secondary schools in Bruton, Sexeys and King’s and above many others in the county.

At GCSE, 79% of pupils achieved 5 good GCSEs, with 47% fulfilling the criteria of the Government’s English Bacc.

The fantastic news rounded off an excellent year for the school, in which Bruton School for Girls preparatory school, Sunny Hill, was awarded outstanding in all areas after an inspection in 2012.

Headmistress, Mrs Nicola Botterill, said ‘These results are all the more outstanding as we are not academically selective yet, as the value added by the teaching here is so significant, the girls consistently outperform expectations. We add, on average across every subject, a grade to each girl’s performance.’
