Bruton_school_for_Girls_Eco_SquadGirls have carried out a number of projects over the last 12 months which impressed Eco-Schools inspectors and culminated in the prized flag being re-awarded.

Projects included surveys of water and electricity wastage which were reported for action to the school’s Estates Bursar, supporting a gardening club in the school grounds, recycling phones and creating reusable notepads for use in the school.

Pupils also introduced a new recycling scheme, supporting the school’s purchase of a paper and cardboard bailer, which has been almost paid for through funds from increased recycling. Girls have also organised swap shops where students and staff recycle their unwanted books, cds and clothes.

Headmaster, John Burrough, said ‘In many ways it has been a greater challenge to gain re-accreditation than when we were first awarded the Green Flag. Things have to be seen to have moved forward from an already impressive level. This makes the girls’ achievement all the more praiseworthy.’
