GIRLS GO GREEN AT BRUTON

An exciting week of environmental activities took place at Bruton School for Girls last week to celebrate the Girls’ Schools Association ‘Girls Go Green Week’.

Pupils from all year groups took part in a huge range of activities, which began on Monday 3rd October with an Eco Living Fair at the school. Organisations were on hand to provide information and advice on a range of products and services from alternative forms of heating to conservation.

Across the week pupils had the opportunity to watch a film explaining the effects of over-fishing and also hear a talk by Professor Sue Cunningham of the Indigenous People’s Trust, a charity which assists communities around the world to become self-sustaining and independent.

Within the school day workshops on local food focussed on growing your own produce and cooking from the hedgerow.

Year 7 pupils visited the Carymoor Environmental Centre to learn more about recycling to help improve the school’s in-house recycling scheme.
