Pupils at Bruton School for girls and Sunny Hill Preparatory School are celebrating outstanding results in recent London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) examinations.

Bruton School for Girls pupils celebrate Drama successOverall seventy-five per cent of students of all ages, prepared by Mrs Sally Brunel-Cohen, passed with distinction.

LAMDA is one of the oldest drama schools in the United Kingdom, founded in 1861.

Speech and Drama lessons are available to children across the school. They help to build confidence and to develop communication skills and self-esteem. The students may take a wide variety of performance and communication exams. Girls progress through the grades towards the more advanced Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals as well as The LAMDA Certificate in Speech and Drama Performance Studies.

This success comes on the back of excellent GCSE Drama results in 2011 with seventy-three per cent of students achieving an A* or A grade and a triumphant production of ‘The Sound of Music.’

Headmaster, John Burrough, said “Drama presents a unique opportunity to examine aspects of human experience, giving participants a chance to consider sometimes tricky or controversial questions, to see things from another’s point of view. It leads to improved communication skills and self-confidence and I am absolutely delighted that so many of our girls seize the chance to gain these valuable qualifications, and that they have performed so magnificently. We are fortunate to have such an inspirational teacher as Mrs Sally Brunel-Cohen.”
