Bruton School for Girls students celebrate one hundred per cent pass rate in English examsStudents at Bruton School for Girls are celebrating a one hundred per cent pass rate in their recent English Speaking Board exams.

Twenty three Sixth Form girls took the Advanced Certificate in Spoken English with twenty gaining Distinction and three a merit plus.

The English Speaking Board is a national body which provides graded assessments from Key Stage 1 to Advanced level standard in spoken English.

In taking the course, students learn valuable communication skills including presentation skills, how to present a case and listening skills, which can help in the pursuit of their chosen career.

These exams will count towards a pupil’s UCAS points, which are used by Universities to select students. A Distinction in the Advanced Certificate in Spoken English exam carries sixty five UCAS points while a Merit plus carries sixty.

Headteacher, John Burrough, commented: “Communication and presentation skills are of utmost importance in employment and in life generally. The fantastic results achieved by this year’s candidates – our best ever I think – reflect their skills and talents and are a further demonstration of the added value an education at Bruton provides. I congratulate all the girls involved and my colleagues in the English department who prepared them. Brilliant!”
