Sparkling GCSE results at Bruton School for Girls

2011’s GCSE results at Bruton School for Girls were the best for many years, with no less than 60.4 per cent of all grades being A* and A. This is almost three times the proportion gained nationally.
95 per cent of the girls achieved the benchmark five GCSE passes at grades A*-C including English and Mathematics.
97.5 per cent gained at least five passes at grades A*-C and 82.5 per cent gained at least eight passes at that level.
Eleven of the 40 candidates this year gained all their passes at grades A* and A:

Maisie Lam from Hong Kong gained nine A*s and one A, Lucy Stewart from Salisbury eight A*s and two As, Sarah Sharp of Gillingham seven A*s and four As, Aleks Carlyon of Somerton and Emily Hotson of Trudoxhill near Frome seven A*s and three As, Riyah Collins of Woolland, Blandford Forum and Lucy Wingate of Cucklington near Wincanton six A*s and four As, Eleanor Carpenter of Bruton, Rebecca Forrester of North Wootton, Wells and Amber Rose-Dewey of Barton St David, Glastonbury five A*s and five As and Connie Searle of Wincanton three A*s and seven As.

Headmaster John Burrough commented “I congratulate all the girls and their teachers on this outstanding set of GCSE results, the best for many years at Bruton School for Girls. These grades are all the more impressive when one recalls that Bruton is not an academically selective school. The grades are the product of excellent teaching and effective learning and, taken alongside all the extra-curricular achievements of these students, once again highlight the advantages of girls-only education.”
