Bruton School for Girls is celebrating its best A level results for six years. Almost half the grades were A* and A and no less than 75 per cent were A*-B. The vast majority of the students gained places at their first-choice university.

Outstanding individual results were gained by Head Girl Emily Hughes of Wincanton, Alison Linney of Wanstrow and two boarders Linda Leung and Jennifer Mok.

Emily’s passes were all at A grades and she will be pursuing an application for Medicine in September. Alison gained an A* and two As which secures her place to read Ancient History at Newcastle. Linda, who gained two A*s and two As, has a place to read Business Management at King’s College, London. Jennifer’s brilliant two A*s and three As enables her to read Physics at Bath.

Outgoing Headmaster John Burrough commented “In a year when we have been told national standards are being tightened up, I am particularly delighted by these grades. As ever, Bruton has enabled the girls to succeed and the full list of varied university destinations makes impressive reading.”

New Headmistress Nicola Botterill said “Individually and collectively, standards are high at Bruton School for Girls and the advantages of single-sex education are once again underlined. I congratulate all the girls on their results; this is clearly cause for celebration.”

The Bruton pass rate was 98.6 per cent and 87.5 per cent were at grades A*-C.
