Artwalk a show of wearable art showcased the incredible talent of art students at Bruton School for Girls this summer.

Pupils from across the school designed and produced artwork, which was modelled on the catwalk by themselves and their friends.

Art teacher, Mrs Jess La Trobe Bateman oversaw the project which allowed girls to design their own fabrics, create their own outfits and artwork and produce the show, which played to a packed audience.

Former pupil, Jody Myerscough-Walker, a fabric designer in Winchester, provided advice to students through a workshop at the school and attended the show to see the final results.

The school excels in fine art with over fifty per cent of candidates receiving an A* or A grade in this summer’s A Level results.

This electric show, with choreography and dance routines devised by the pupils themselves, proved a fantastic experience for all those who took part.

Head of Art, Mr Brian Wyatt, said
‘The Art Department has a very strong tradition for Fine Art and Textiles. This year’s Art Walk was a first for Bruton and, considering its incredible success, will be something we will certainly repeat in the future. I was so impressed with the girls’ drive and hard work. The garments they produced were stunning and their performance on the catwalk so professional. You no longer need to visit London to see cutting edge fashion, it’s here in Bruton!’

Creations from the show will be exhibited at the Somerset Art Weeks launch at At the Chapel in Bruton on 13th September 2012.
