Bruton School for Girls are celebrating yet another fantastic year of GCSE results with 95.2% of girls achieving A*- C grades which is a 3% increase on last year and more than 1 in 3 (35%) obtained at least 8A*-A grades – illustrating that the school is going from strength to strength.

Established in 1900 and set in beautiful English countryside in Somerset, overlooking Glastonbury Tor, Bruton School for Girls is a day and boarding school with a history of all-round academic excellence amongst a ‘home from home’ atmosphere.

Headmistress, Nicola Botterill said: “Our GCSE and A-level results this year have been truly outstanding. It’s such a pleasure to see all the hard work pay off and I hope the girls are as thrilled with their results as the teachers are! I am delighted they have achieved the grades and look forward to seeing many of them return to continue their studies within our new Sixth Form centre.

This year’s results show that 94% achieved 5 or more A*- C grades, 85% achieved 8 or more A*- C grades and 82% of all grades were A*- B – which is a remarkable result.

Noteworthy pupils include Georgina Chadfield from Wandsworth with 11A*- A (8A*, 3A), Megan Hatt from Wincanton with 10A*-A (2A*,8A) and Abigail Pitchforth from Horsington with 10A*-A (8A*,2A). The school’s identical twin girls India and Phillipa Thomas from Wincanton both obtained 11A*-B with at least 9A*-A grades each.

Bruton School for Girls add on average, across every subject at GCSE, approximately one grade to each girl’s predicted performance, with the vast majority going on to their first choice university. This year has certainly been the case with A-level results of 88% obtaining A*- C grades.

The school is one of only 27 schools in the country, and the only one in the South West, to hold the Eco Schools Ambassador Award – demonstrating green issues and sustainability are embedded into the ethos of the school. In addition to a first class education the school also adds value through extra-curricular activities and enhances creativity through its community art and eco links.
