A team from Bruton School for Girls has reached the semi-finals of The Times Spelling Bee, a national competition for 11 and 12 year olds.

The girls will now take part in a live spelling event along with other teams from the region in the semi-finals, which takes place in May.

If they win through to the final, as a Bruton School for Girls team did in 2010, they will compete against teams from all over the UK at the Institute of Education in London in June.

The Times Spelling Bee is a competition designed to find the nation’s best young spellers.

Headmaster, John Burrough, said ‘Accurate spelling is incredibly important and I am delighted that our team has reached a sufficiently high standard to gain a place in the semi-finals of this challenging national competition’.
