The Wincanton team finished top of five teams at the Somerset Young Farmers Public Speaking Championships, which took place on Sunday 27th November at Westonzoyland. The team spoke on the subject of mobile phones. Charlotte, who was the Chair for Wincanton Young Farmers, was set the challenge of introducing another team’s talk, having had only a ten-minute briefing.

Emma Cotton, a Year 11 student from West Bradley near Glastonbury, also took part in the competition representing Wells & Glastonbury Young Farmers Club, who finished second on the night.

Headmaster of Bruton School for Girls, John Burrough, said ‘The ability to stand up in front of an audience and put over an argument, to chair a meeting or to summarise and thank the speaker is of immense value, and these are skills we always encourage at Sunny Hill. I congratulate both Charlotte and Emma and their fellow team members on their success. We wish them luck in the next stage of the competition.’
