Girls, staff and parents from Bruton School for Girls joined the mass participation artwork ‘PROCESSIONS 2018’ in London on Sunday to celebrate 100 years since women first gained the right to vote.

The huge human artwork involved over one hundred thousand girls and women, with pupils displaying artwork created with artist Dorcas Casey as part of Somerset Art Works.

Headmistress Nicky Botterill said: “As a girls’ school we were keen to celebrate all that 2018 symbolises and this was the perfect project.  While we recognise there is still work to be done, it is vital our girls learn from the past, and understand how far we have come and the sacrifices made to get there. Genuine equality for all and the fight against social injustice are on-going issues which our girls feel passionate about working together to overcome.

“Creativity lies at the heart of our school and we have combined this with historical research, while empowering women of the future. We are hugely grateful to Dorcas and Somerset Art Works for their support in this exciting project.  I know the girls will remember the day for many years to come.”
