Bruton School for Girls has been ranked as the top school in Dorset and Somerset at GCSE level in the Department of Education league tables, based on the Attainment 8 measure.

The rankings show the average pupil achievement across eight subjects including English and maths, with scoring 61.7 based on a national average of 44.6, which is almost ten points higher than any other school in Somerset.

The school’s upper sixth results from last year also topped of the rankings in Somerset based on the A Level average point score.

The non-selective school says the results demonstrate the pastoral care and tailored curriculum on offer and sealed its place as the fourth best school at A Levels in The Telegraph’s national league table for smaller independent schools.

Headmistress Nicky Botterill said: “Once again our girls have demonstrated the undeniable benefits of an all-girls education.  For over 100 years we have produced exceptional results and whilst we are passionate about educating the whole girl and providing a greenhouse, not hothouse environment for her to flourish in, we are, understandably delighted by these results.”
