Five girls from Burgess Hill School for Girls took part in the UKUA Ultimate Frisbee trials at Sutton Coldfield and Year Burgess Hill11 student, Eliza McHugh, secured a place on this year’s Under 17s Great Britain Ultimate Frisbee Squad.

Eliza McHugh, Laura Calvin Frame, Katie Jackson, Valentine Olds, and Beth Hutchinson, played against teams from all over the country and alongside players from the current GB Under 17s team on Saturday 20th April.

The girls are members of the Burgess Hill School for Girls’ Ultimate Frisbee team which was only set up in September.

The girls have only been playing Frisbee for a few months and had no official game experience before the trials. They played against players with at least a year of experience and some current national champions.

The warm up was led by the Under 17s Coach Phil Sturt and feedback was given by Lead GB Coach, Tom Howard. The girls were put into teams with two GB players and the four hours of trials were split between matches with professional advice and gruelling drills, and a final round robin tournament.

Highlights included Burgess Hill’s Katie Jackson hand an impressive ‘D’ (defensive block) against a GB player, and some amazing ‘first cuts’ and ‘stacking’ from the School team.

Miss Slade, the School’s Ultimate Frisbee coach, commented, “The girls all enjoyed the experience and were a credit to the School. They raised their game considerably after receiving feedback from the Coach, who said he had no idea they weren’t experienced players.”
