Burgess Hill Girls Rock the Stage!

Students at Burgess Hill School for Girls performed their biggest stage production in the school’s history. Ninety- Burgess Hill we will rock youthree students were involved in the production of We Will Rock You, which was performed five times from Wednesday 13th to Saturday 16th March.

The performers and production team were girls from Years 7 to Upper Sixth and six boys from Central Sussex College in Haywards Heath. The planning and rehearsals for the show took 18 months.

The students took part in acting, stage managing, operating the lighting, organising the costumes, doing make-up and working Front of House by showing the audience to their seats and selling programmes.

Mrs Emma Cassim, the Director and Head of Drama at Burgess Hill School said, “The whole show is run by the students and for the students, and, as a teacher, that’s the best feeling in the world, knowing that the students I have the pleasure of working with are taking ownership over such a huge production and working together, regardless of year group or ability, to produce something outstanding.”

“Staging any production is a true collaboration between everyone and without each person, the show wouldn’t work.Burgess Hill It’s a bit like this School. We are all here for each other and working with each other in order to be the best we can be.”

We Will Rock You is the first production of the year for the school. In the summer the Year 7 and 8 students will perform a show.

Drama is a popular subject at Burgess Hill School; there are three Drama clubs and opportunities for numerous theatre trips to London and in the South East.

GCSE and A Level results for Drama are consistently at a high standard and the school also offers extra lessons and qualifications in Speech and Drama.

The school has a Drama studio and large hall with technical devices such as professional sound and lighting systems which were upgraded in 2012.
