A Burgess Hill School student company, The Bee Business, won a runner-up award in the Young Enterprise Awards Burgess Hill2013.

The Awards took place on at the Chequer Mead Arts Centre in East Grinstead.

Each student company prepared a trade stand and performed a four minute presentation on their company’s experience of trading this year.

The Bee Business were awarded the runner-up prize for the ‘Most Innovative Product’.

The Burgess Hill students had the objective of raising awareness within the school and the wider community of the threats faced by bees and how people can help.

They sold bee key rings, bracelets and greeting cards with packets of seeds inside to encourage people to plant ‘bee friendly’ flowers and plants.

The second Burgess Hill School for Girls’ company, Vanity Company, produced original bracelets, either ready-made or according to customers’ choice of beads.

The ‘African Range’ included beads specially brought back from Ghana and the company will make a contribution from the sales of these to the Uganda appeal.

Business Studies teacher, Mrs Jane King said “Despite very difficult trading conditions, not to mention the appalling weather at the most recent Trade Fair, the girls have learnt many valuable skills from their experience.”
