Burgess Hill School for Girls pupils at the Basketball matchSophie Rowson, 10, and Lucy Meekings, 8, from Burgess Hill School for Girls were chosen by a Basketball Captain to be mascots for an evening, during a school trip to watch a professional basketball match.

Sixty-three pupils, parents and friends attended the match between Worthing Thunder and the London Leopards.

Thunder captain, James Brame, selected the two girls, who ran onto the court with the team, through rows of cheerleaders.

For many of the girls it was their first experience of live basketball and it reinforced many of the lessons they have been taking in the weekly after school basketball club, run by Thunder coach, Dominic Baker.

Unfortunately Worthing Thunder were defeated 52-89 by the London Leopards who will be moving up to the British Basketball League next season.
