Burgess Hill School for Girls – Roz calls for more professionals to join School Governors

Burgess Hill School for Girls School Governor Roz CummingBurgess Hill School for Girls has appointed a new governor, Roz Cumming. The school is hoping to attract more businessmen and women to become governors this year.

Roz has joined Burgess Hill School’s Building and Estates Committee and Joint Educational Committee. The Board of Governors determines the overall direction and development of the school through good governance and clear strategic planning.

Speaking of her new role Roz said, “I like volunteering and this role enables me to put something back into the community. I get satisfaction from making a difference, especially to the development and growth of young people and Burgess Hill School for Girls caters for girls from 2 1/2 years right through to Sixth Form.”

The role of a school governor involves working with the school’s leadership team to contribute towards providing future generations with first class educational opportunities, at an affordable rate.

Roz comes from a professional background in sport and leisure management and has worked as a senior manager for two awarding bodies which offer national qualifications. She currently works for Simple Safety Advice Ltd., in Haywards Heath and is a mother to an 18 month old daughter.

Speaking of why she applied for the governor’s position Roz said, “The bursar, Mr Bond, sent out a mailing to local businesses looking to recruit governors with a diverse range of skills. I was interested in the school because it provided for girls of all ages, offered a very diverse range of activities and services, and I was interested in seeing how it would change and develop in today’s society.”

“Burgess Hill School for Girls is very innovative, continually moving forward to keep pace with the world in which we live. The Headmistress is an inspiration to the girls and wants to challenge them to make sure their best is achieved. It is not just another school; the girls have social activities and extra opportunities for personal development, and the school goes above and beyond what other schools offer.”
