Burgess Hill School for Girls celebrate A Level success

With 53% of the A Level Mathematics results at grade A* and 68% of all Science and Mathematics results graded at A or A* it is no surprise that many are headed off to study Science or Engineering at University.

Particular congratulations go to Lucy Baird-Murray (Ancient History & History, Nottingham), Madeleine Bravery (History & Sociology, Manchester), Nicola Elder (Psychology, Exeter), Beatrice Farmelo (Sociology & Politics, Bristol), Anna Graham (Management with Marketing, Leeds), Megan Hector (English Language & Literature, King’s College London), Charlotte Jenkins (applying 2012), Florence Moon (Psychology, Exeter), Cherry Ng (Nutrition, King’s College London) and Anna Prendergast (applying 2012) who all gained A or A* in all their subjects. Sarah Lucas and Charlotte Frost gained a full house of 3 A* grades in addition to top grades in their Extension activities which included Further Mathematics at AS and an Extended Project Qualification. Sarah and Charlotte are both now heading to Cambridge University to study Natural Sciences and Veterinary Science respectively.

The interests of the girls are diverse and their course choices and destinations speak volumes about the breadth and strength of their talents, from Medicine at Bristol (Chloe de Souza) to International Relations at Edinburgh (Malaka Hilmy); Mechanical Engineering at Bristol (Kate Mactear); IT in Organisations at Southampton (Lizzie Bolton); French with Italian at Royal Holloway (Hannah Goodbourn); Japanese at SOAS (Tanya Savage); Biochemistry at Newcastle (Vivian Wong); Mathematics with Management at Exeter (Priscilla Yung) and Drama, Theatre & Performance at Roehampton (Bethany Gavin) to name but a few.

Ann Aughwane, Headmistress and member of the Girls’ Schools Association, said “We are extremely proud of them all; they have made the most of the benefits of studying in a girls’ school where they are encouraged to aim high and there are no artificial barriers to studying any subject. They follow their interests with stunning results. I am delighted for the staff too; their passion and commitment is key in providing the excellent teaching and support which enables the girls to excel.”

Mrs Aughwane added “It is always a privilege to congratulate the girls at this crucial stage in their education. The 100% pass rate represents a real accomplishment for all the girls and each can be proud of their achievements. They work so hard and contribute so much to the school and wider community. To see them realise their ambitions and gain places to pursue their studies at well-respected universities is a fitting end to their time with us. Whether they joined the school many years ago or just for the Sixth Form, we delight in sharing their success.”
