Burgess Hill Students Perform at BBC Broadcasting HouseThree students from Burgess Hill School for Girls were filmed at BBC Broadcasting House as part of a national drama competition on Tuesday 1st November.

Polly Beaumont, Nina Henderson and Charlotte Nash, who are Year 10 students, took part in the regional auditions for the BBC ‘Off by Heart’ Shakespeare competition. They were required to learn and perform a piece of Shakespeare ‘off by heart’ in front of a panel of judges from the theatre world.

The auditions were held at BBC Broadcasting House, home to the One Show and Top Gear, and the girls were given a tour around the television studios. They also took part in workshops with professional actors and directors on Shakespeare’s use of language and performance skills.

The girls were selected for the regional finals after winning their school heats which were held last term. Four hundred young people auditioned at the London South heats and only one person from the round was chosen for the final.

Miss Tarratt, Head of Drama at Burgess Hill School, said “The girls had a fantastic day and leant a great deal in the process but sadly didn’t win a place in the finals. They did their best and are big stars to us!”

The girls’ auditions may be used as part of a BBC documentary of the whole competition in April next year.
