Burgess Hill Teacher Launches Series of Children’s Books

A teacher from Burgess Hill School for Girls will have her children’s story books on sale in bookshops across the Burgess Hill teacher childrens book something deliciousUK this September.

Jill Walkinton, the Individual Educational Needs Co-ordinator at Burgess Hill School for Girls’ Junior School, wrote the book with her friend and writing partner, Alison Lewis.

The first preview of the book was presented to the infants classes at the School on Monday 11th February, where the writers led a practical workshop as part of the School’s Book Week.

Something Delicious is a picture book featuring fifteen colourful characters illustrated by Ali Pye with a follow up activity at the end of the story. The book will also be sold as an enhanced e-book for children, where the text will be highlighted as the child reads on an e-book reader such as the Amazon Kindle.

Mrs Walkinton said, “It took us 18 months to complete the book; we are the 'never give up crew' as it took us many Burgess Hill something delicious booksyears of effort before getting our first book published.

Our editor has likened this book to the Mr Men books as each character has its own personality, such as Miniwiggler and Skidaddler.”

Something Delicious is the first of four books in a series called The Little Somethings. The second book, Something Different, will be published in February 2014.

Jill Walkinton and Alison Lewis, whose pen name is Jill Lewis, meet up every Friday in London or Sussex to write together.

The pair have three books published so far: A Mum in A Million (Chrysalis Children's Books, 2005); Coconut Jack (Egmont UK, 2009) and Don’t Read This Book (Egmont Books Ltd, 2009).

Don’t Read This Book won the Hampshire Illustrated Book Award and the Bronze prize in the Practical Pre-School Awards 2009 and was shortlisted for the British Book Design and Production Awards 2009; the Bishops Stortford Picture Book Award and was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Award 2010.
