Loretto School hearing dogsMindy, a four-year-old ‘Hearing Dog’ from Musselburgh, visited Loretto School in Edinburgh recently and was presented with her very own handmade coat to mark the occasion.

Sixth Form pupils from Loretto School give up their free time to help with various projects in the local community including assisting with duties at their local ‘Hearing Dogs’ charity shop. So inspired by the work of the charity, Loretto pupils, Lucy and Rebecca, who work in the Hearing Dogs shop, presented Mrs Janie McGregor, the co-ordinator of the charity, with a cheque for £150 pounds from the school, whilst Mindy, the Hearing Dog, was presented with a winter and summer coat made by her a Loretto pupil’s Grandmother.

Hearing Dogs was founded in 1982 and is a national charity and centre of excellence in training dogs to alert deaf people to important sounds and danger signals in the home, work place and public buildings.
Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs added, “This support for Hearing Dogs is a pupil-led initiative. The work of this charity is inspirational and we are very proud of all the pupils who have assisted in this venture. Mindy, the Hearing Dog provided the ‘aww factor’ and we all thought that she looked resplendent in her new Loretto coat!”
