Caterham School is shortlisted in two categories in the Independent Schools Awards 2011

Staff and pupils at Caterham School were delighted to learn that the school has been shortlisted in two categories in the Independent Schools Awards 2011.

Education Initiative of the Year: This recognises a project that has helped children to fulfil their potential and to improve learning outcomes. The Caterham School project that was nominated is the Student Lead Learner programme (otherwise known as “Study Buddy”).

Outstanding Community Initiative: This recognises an initiative that involves working with external groups such as parents and the local community. The Caterham School project that was nominated is the Rob Davey Society (RDS), which oversees the provision of community service, fundraising and public benefit. Two of the main initiatives run by the RDS are the expeditions to Ukraine and Tanzania.

Headmaster Julian Thomas commented: ‘We are naturally delighted to be shortlisted for these two awards. Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of these nominations is that, in both projects, the students are volunteering to participate and making a tangible difference to the lives of others.’

The decision of the eleven judges will be announced on 16 November
