Charterhouse’s CCF Training Day For Students

As part of Charterhouse Year 9 activities week, Cadets in the Royal Marines Detachment and the Army Section were put through their paces over four demanding days.

The boys visited the Army Training Regiment at Pirbright and tackled the assault course. This included high walls, tunnels, scramble nets and rope swings. The assault course is normally used by soldiers in training so it was particularly pleasing to see the energy, courage and team work which the Cadets displayed. The boys then deployed to the Aldershot military training areas and were shown how to construct shelters and cook their own food. As it got dark they practised their night navigation and close target reconnaissance and camouflage and concealment skills.

This was a demanding four day exercise. All the instructors commented on how positive and enthusiastic the Cadets were.  It was evident to see characters being built and a growing self-belief that comes from tackling new challenges.

Demonstration of opportunities for aspiring young Officers

The Corps Colonel’s Department from the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines sent a team of Royal Marines to Charterhouse on Monday 3 March. There were 12 Marines eagerly watched by the entire CCF Contingent of 180 boys.

The team gave a presentation on what Royal Marines are about and career opportunities for aspiring young Officer applicants. There then followed  equipment displays, an entertaining food nutrition and cooking workshop and finally an unarmed combat display set to music.
