On Saturday 17 September, the Cheltenham Ladies’ College hosted a conference for sixth form students from across Cheltenham who are planning to study medicine at University as well as for those intending to read psychology or follow careers in nursing, midwifery and biochemistry.

The 140 students heard from a range of speakers, including Gubby Ayida, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Sam Guglani, a Consultant Oncologist at Cheltenham General Hospital and many others who are seen as experts in their fields. Each of the speakers passionately described their branch of medicine and the areas in which they specialise. The students were also given advice on University applications, interview and work experience, and heard current medical students talk about their studies.

“We are absolutely delighted to have been able to host such an inspiring conference, and wish to thank all those speakers who gave of their valuable time and expertise, as well as the students from all the schools who attended for their wide-ranging questions and enthusiasm. The College has 10 leavers this year going on to read Medicine, and we are fortunate to have an excellent alumni association whose members continue to be very supportive of current students as regards advice and encouragement.”
