Science Conference at the Cheltenham Ladies’ College

Over 200 students from schools across the South of England attended an International Baccalaureate Theory of Knowledge Science Conference on Monday 12th September hosted at The Cheltenham Ladies’ College.

The pupils heard from eminent speaker Andy Fletcher and covered topics ranging from ‘Chaos Theory’ to ‘Isaac Newton’s Deterministic, Mechanistic, Reductionistic Infinite Universe’.

Becky Revell, International Baccalaureate Co-ordinator at The Cheltenham Ladies’ College, says “The Cheltenham Ladies’ College has been offering the IB in the Sixth Form as an alternative to A Levels since 2008. The qualification encourages students to question and make links between subjects, strongly equipping students for the challenges of higher education. This conference combines two key elements of the IB – Theory of Knowledge and Science. I hope the students agree that this has been a fantastic opportunity to hear a prominent speaker discuss scientific topics with passion and enthusiasm.”

The Cheltenham Ladies’ College will be hosting a Sixth Form Open Day on Saturday 17th September for any girls in Years 10 and 11 who are interested in learning more about studying at College or in studying the IB.
