Respected personalities from the spheres of ecology and education will appear at The Cheltenham Ladies’ College next month.

The environmentalist, Jonathon Porritt, former chief examiner Sue Warn, and lecturer Professor Iain Stewart have been booked for the Geography Conference on November 14.

Girls will be given the chance to attend lectures by the experts and gain top tips for AS and A2 Level examinations.

Ten other schools from Gloucestershire have been invited to the event

Conference organiser, College Geography teacher Jemma Jones, said: “We have managed to secure some excellent speakers.

“It’s wonderful to be able to attract experts like them to the College and I am sure our girls will benefit from their considerable wisdom.”

The day will be introduced by Principal Eve Jardine-Young, before Mr Porritt introduces a talk entitled 'Sustainable Cities'.

A well-known environmentalist, he was formerly Director of Friends of the Earth, co-chair of the Green Party and was Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission in July 2009.

His talk will be followed by Sue Warn’s lecture on tectonic hazards.

Mrs Warn is the former Chief Examiner for Edexcel and has written and co-written many of the text books used for the College's A Level courses.

Talks about exams are scheduled in the afternoon, before Prof Stewart’s talk entitled 'Hot Rocks – communicating geoscience issues to a wary public'.

Prof Stewart is a lecturer at Plymouth University and is also involved in broadcasting.

He has been involved in a number of television and radio programs, such as Earth: The Power of the Planet, How the Earth Made Us and most recently Volcano Live.
