Former Cheltenham Ladies’ College student Sophie Dunley has been awarded a prestigious organ scholarship by The University of Oxford.

Sophie, who attended the college between 2013 and 2018, will start in autumn 2019 to read Linguistics & Modern Greek at Pembroke College.

During her time at Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Sophie was also awarded the college’s own Organ Scholarship, which is awarded to a student who is a promising organist and who also shows interest in developing choral accompanying and directing skills.

Sophie, who also plays the violin, viola and piano, had had no formal organ lessons before joining College, where she studied with Fiona Brown.

More recently, the scholarship afforded her the opportunity to have coaching in keyboard skills (from the College Organist, Sarah Baldock, and support in choral directing from the Head of Vocal Studies, Oliver Parker.
