Starstruck children met cricketing legend Andrew Flintoff at a special sports workshop this morning. Edge Grove

The former England fast bowler spoke to the next generation of cricketers about his career, his life, what car he drives and even what he eats for breakfast at Edge Grove School, in Aldenham Village.

The six to 13-year-olds were chanting his name as he arrived at the school as part of a Cricketing Academy workshop, which has been running for the past three days during the school’s half term.

School manager Emma Morris said: "It was unbelievable. The children were stunned, they gave him such a warm welcome and it was really an amazing morning.

"We were really honoured to have him at the school."

After the question and answer session, Flintoff then gave the pupils a brief rundown of his career and how he started playing professionally.

They also were given the chance to have their cricket t-shirts signed before they took part in a coaching session with their cricketing idol.

Joanna Morrison, the school’s marketing manager, said: "It was an amazing atmosphere and the children had an absolutely fantastic time meeting him.

"They were really interested in finding out more about his career because all of them love cricket.

"Everyone was saying how brilliant it was. They were starstruck and are very excited about the whole thing."

Ms Morrison added: "They were all watching him, enamoured."

Chef and television personality, Gino D'acampo, whose son is a pupil at Edge Grove, was in a meeting with the school’s head teacher when he decided to pop into the hall and make a surprise visit to the sportsman and the budding young cricketers.
