A Bedford School sixth former has successfully re-auditioned to be a member of the National Youth Choir.

Silas Sanders has also been selected to sing with the National Youth Chamber Choir, a small sub-set of the National Youth Choir.

The student, who is president of the school’s Music Society, was in a state of disbelief after he received the invitation. At just 17 years of age, he is one of the youngest members to be selected for the National Youth Chamber Choir.

During the summer, Silas spent time singing with a small ensemble under the direction of Ben Parry, Director of the National Youth Choir, where he got to showcase his talent.

He also plays tuba and piano to a high level and is currently in the process of applying for a choral scholarship to study Music at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Jeremy Rouse, assistant director of music, commented: “The National Youth Chamber Choir is a select group formed of the highest achieving members of the National Youth Choir and it’s a great honour for Silas to be chosen for it. The choir has a busy schedule of recordings, tours and concerts and has been the launch-pad for many young professionals’ careers.”
